Terella (aurora)

This demonstration uses a vacuum chamber with a trace amount of nitrogen that simulates the conditions in the upper atmosphere. A flat electrode inside the chamber acts as the solar wind, emitting charged particles. Moving lights are created by the transfer of energy between the charged particles and the low-pressure nitrogen.
