A considerable number of astronomers and physicists have begun pursuing careers in industry as the demand for data driven talent has increased. However, it can be difficult for early career scientists to navigate the industry job market or know what to expect in a post-academic career. In this seminar, I will summarize the technical aspects of my graduate and postdoctoral academic research which motivated a transition to industry. I will describe the research projects I engaged in while in industry and contrast the expectations for a “finished product” between industry and academia. Finally, I will discuss my perspective on the work atmosphere in industry and provide advice for the job application process.
