Distinguished Lecture: The Black Hole Information Paradox

Speaker:

Andrew Strominger (Harvard University)

Host:

Katrin Becker

Location:

Address:

Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics & Astronomy

College Station, Texas 77843

Event Details

Quantum mechanical black holes have a paradoxical behavior discovered by Stephen Hawking which lies at the crossroads of gravity, quantum mechanics and thermodynamics. This deep paradox has survived all attempted resolutions over the last four decades. It is expected that its resolution will require a radical new view of the physical universe. This talk will review the information paradox together with an ongoing attempt at its resolution.
