The superspace de Rham complex of p-form field-strength superfields is reviewed in the standard superspace formalism with minimal supersymmetry. The complex is then studied in a more abstract setting and a simple, generic procedure for constructing field-strength superfields is presented based on a free resolution of the super-Poincaré algebra. Examples in 4D, N = 1 superspace are given and contrasted with the usual textbook approach. Time permitting, other applications to constructing supergravity backgrounds and to the analysis of more complicated complexes (e.g., those in curved superspace, with extended supersymmetry, that consist of composite forms, or have non-abelian gauge symmetry) are discussed.
