Quantum metrology: from basic science to useful applications

About The Speaker

Professor Davidovich is a fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. He is foreign associate of the US National Academy of Sciences, member of the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in the Developing Countries (TWAS) and president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He received the Brazilian Grand-Cross of the National Order of Scientific Merit and the Brazilian National Prize of Science and Technology.

Event Details

Fundamental properties of quantum mechanics, such as superpositions of states and entanglement, have found their way to useful applications in quantum metrology, helping to unveil the secrets of the early universe, to increase the sensitivity of spectroscopy, and leading to high-precision devices such as new-generation atomic clocks, gravimeters, magnetometers, and accelerometers. This talk will summarize the foundations and recent achievements in quantum metrology, regarding some applications and recent theoretical developments involving quantum sensing of noisy systems.
