LIGO as a Dark Matter Detector and Probe of the Early Universe

Speaker:

G. Scott Watson (Syracuse University)

Location:

Address:

Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics & Astronomy

Event Details

In this talk I will discuss the recent LIGO detection of gravitation waves. After reviewing what is known about the signal I will discuss the possibility that the event may have resulted from a dark matter collision. If such an interpretation for the LIGO signal is confirmed, this will not only provide us with a new observational window on the very early universe, but also a complementary probe on the nature of dark matter.
