In AdS3/CFT2, there is a large ensemble of horizonless geometries that have been conjectured to be related to black hole microstates. In the regime where the geometry develops a deep throat, branes wrapping cycles in the geometry cost very little energy and start to condense. An associated quiver quantum mechanical model of minimally wrapped branes exhibits a non-negligible fraction of the three-charge gravitational entropy. The results suggest a picture of AdS3/CFT2 duality wherein the long string that accounts for BTZ black hole entropy in the CFT description, can also be seen to inhabit the horizon of BPS black holes on the gravity side.
