Event Details

I describe a new framework for classifying 5d superconformal field theories (SCFTs) with Coulomb branch deformations. In the first part of the talk, I review a recently proposed classification of SCFTs arising from gauge theories with a simple gauge group using field theory data. In the second part, I discuss aspects of a current project to classify rank two theories in terms of Calabi-Yau singularities, which is a refinement of the first approach that incorporates nonperturbative instanton physics. I will show that the second approach supports the existence of many of the new theories identified using the first approach, as well as confirms a number of dualities between rank two gauge theories.
