Mitchell Physics Building

College Station, Texas 77843-4242

About The Speaker

Dr. Galina Shinkareva is a geoscientist working with international scientific groups from Sweden (Stockholm University), Switzerland (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne), Germany (Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research), Russia (Lomonosov Moscow State University), USA (Rice University) and Mongolia (German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology) at the intersection of geochemistry, ecology, hydrology, bioremediation and geographic information systems for determining the fate of chemical elements and compounds in various environments..

Event Details

Historically aquatic systems are considered as cradles of civilizations and drivers of their evolution. However, the centuries-old use of river systems in anthropogenic activities leads to their severe pollution. The understanding of pollutant transport and sedimentation processes in river basins is crucial for the further development of cities and industries. This seminar will focus on a multidisciplinary approach of assessing the processes of self-purification of riverine and deltaic systems from heavy metals pollution using combined methods of land surveys, remote sensing and laboratory analyses.
