Gamma Ray Excess from the Galactic Center: Dark Matter or Point Sources?

Speaker:

Wei Xue (MIT)

Location:

Address:

Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics & Astronomy

Event Details

The analysis of the Fermi LAT data reveals a GeV gamma ray excess in the center of the Milk Way. Having a spherical morphology, the excess can be explained by dark-matter annihilation. Dr. Wei will present a new method to characterize unresolved point sources, which goes beyond the traditional template methods. With this method, the GeV excess is fully absorbed by a population of unresolved point sources.
