The Standard Model and Search for New Particles Beyond the Standard Model

The Standard Model (SM) of Particle Physics has been enormously successful but it only describes 5% of the energy content of the universe. Studies focused on SM parameters such as the properties of top quarks and Higgs bosons are conducted at particle colliders. High energy experimentalists Ricardo Eusebi and Teruki Kamon carry out their program using data from the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Dave Toback uses data from the CDF experiment at Fermilab. This approach complements precision measurements at nuclear facilities carried out by nuclear experimentalists John Hardy and Dan Melconian. Searches for new particles beyond the Standard Model is an important component of collider experiments. Alexei Safonov, Dave Toback and Keith Ullmer focus on searches for new Higgs Bosons and/or new supersymmetric partners to the known SM particles. New accelerator technologies could improve our ability to produce and study these particles and are developed by Peter McIntyre.
