Event Details

Accelerated particle detectors detect particles corresponding to a quantum field even in the vacuum state. What happens when that happens. There are a number of non-intuitive effects, such as energy absorption leading to an increase in energy of the quantum field, and the field amplitude emitted by that absorption being much larger in regions acausally related to the particle detector (so no signal to get from the detector to the region). I will review some of this old material and also look and some more recent investigation of this question
