Event Details

I will briefly review several ongoing and recently-completed projects that make use of astronomical observations in the time domain to study a variety of fundamental issues in astrophysics and cosmology: What is the nature of dark energy, and is there evidence for additional physics beyond the current cosmological model? How Quickly do extrasolar planets form? What Are the electromagnetic signatures of neutron star mergers? I Will also present results from an ongoing collaboration with faculty in the Department of Statistics that showcases the power of high-throughput computing and machine-learning techniques for astronomy in the era of "big data".
