The unitarity of the S-matrix puts significant constraints on UV-complete extensions of the SM. The required cancellation of unbounded high-energy growth of scattering amplitudes leads to specific relations among the coupling constants that are common to all models. This allows to derive manifestly finite expressions of loop-induced observables in generic extensions of the standard model. In this talk, I will discuss the calculation of the “Z penguin” which enters the prediction of several rare meson decays. Using the example of anomalous Z couplings to top quarks, I will illustrate how our approach allows to overcome limitations of the effective theories in the search for new physics. I will also discuss possible future applications of our method.
