Event Details

There are several phenomena not covered by the Standard Model of particle physics (SM) that necessitate extensions. In this talk, Supersymmetry (SUSY) as one possibility for this purpose will be motivated. As jets are objects produced with the largest rates at the LHC, a focus of the presentation lies on the definition and calibration of jets for search purposes. Furthermore, the first ever search for SUSY with a vector boson fusion VBF) topology is presented with an emphasis on the same sign hadronically decaying di-τ channel. Here, the background is dominated by QCD multijet processes and the link between the calibration and understanding of jets and searches for new physics as well as the power of VBF topologies for SUSY searches will be demonstrated with data recorded by the CMS experiment in the 2012 √s =8 TeV run.
