Stealth Supersymmetry: Signatures of New Physics with Low Missing Energy at the LHC in Run 1 and Run 2

If we take seriously the hierarchy problem of the Higgs mass then we anticipate that physics beyond the standard model should be accessible at the energies probed by the LHC, so it’s natural to ask why we have thus far failed to find evidence of this new physics in our detectors. Many searches, particularly searches for supersymmetry with a lightest supersymmetric particle, rely explicitly on the presence of large missing transverse energy (MET) in the final state. This assumption, however, omits well motivated models with low-MET signatures--via R-parity violation, compressed spectra, and most recently the mechanism of stealth supersymmetry. Dr. Weinberg will discuss searches carried out at CMS to address these low-MET final states, with a focus on states with jets and either photons or leptons. He will examine the current state of these searches at the conclusion of Run 1, and look forward to the new strategies and techniques that will be employed at the higher energies of Run 2.
