Spectroscopic Investigations of Two-Dimensional Vibrational Potential Energy Surfaces

Several spectroscopic methods including Raman, infrared and ultraviolet absorption, and laser induced fluorescence have been used to investigate the vibrational quantum states in ground and excited electronic states of molecules. The experimental work has been complemented by theoretical investigations. Analysis of the experimental and theoretical data allows the vibrational potential energy surfaces (PESs) of these systems to be determined. These PESs govern the energetics of the structural and conformational properties of these molecules. The focus of the talk will be on two- dimensional PESs and the resulting energies of the quantum states and their corresponding wavefunctions. Wavefunctions are not only very interesting and informative, but they can beautiful!
