Questions and Opportunities in Nuclear Astrophysics

Speaker:

Michael Wiescher (University of Notre Dame)

Location:

Address:

Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics & Astronomy

College Station, Texas 77843

Event Details

The talk will present an overview of the scientific questions associated with the evolution of the chemical elements in our Universe. The most important stellar environments for nucleosynthesis processes and the role of specific nuclear reaction sequences will be presented. Key reactions will be identified, in particular reactions that generate new signatures for the observer community. Experimental techniques with stable and radioactive beams will be discussed that will provide the information necessary for a reliable simulation of stellar processes.
