Event Details

GMACS is the wide field, multi-object, moderate resolution spectrograph that has been selected as a first light instrument for the Giant Magellan Telescope. The instrument will be built at Texas A&M over the next five years. GMACS is designed to make use of the relatively large field-of-view of the telescope and be suitable for observations of very faint objects across a wide range of wavelengths. In this talk, I will give an overview of the GMT project, the GMACS instrument, and some of the new science that will be enabled by this next-generation facility.
