Consistent Kaluza-Klein Truncations via Exceptional Field Theory

Event Details

Dr. Hohm will review exceptional field theory, which encodes the effective spacetime actions of type II strings and 11-dimensional supergravity in a way that is covariant under the exceptional U-duality groups E_n. This is applied to prove the consistency of various Kaluza-Klein truncations, notably of AdS_5 x S^5 in type IIB. This includes the explicit uplift formulas that allow one to embed any solution of the corresponding gauged supergravity in D=5 into an exact solution of type IIB.
