AMO/IQSE seminar: Controlling Thermal and Nonlinear Optical Instabilities in Fiber Amplifiers

Hui Cao (Yale University)

Mitchell Physics Building

College Station, Texas 77843-4242

About The Speaker

Dr. Hui Cao is John C. Malone Professor of Applied Physics and Professor of Electrical Engineering and of Physics. Prof. Cao is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as a recipient of the 2021 Rolf Landauer Medal of the International ETOPIM Association, William E. Lamb Medal for Laser Physics and Quantum Optics, John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, and many other prestigeuos awards.

Event Details

We suppress transverse mode instability and stimulated Brillouin scattering in a multimode fiber by coherent excitation of many modes. High spatial coherence is maintained for a narrow-band seed, and the output beam profile can be shaped by modulating the input wavefront.
