Focusing light to a smaller spot size than the diffraction limit (Abbe diffraction limit: 0.5λ/NA) allows for better resolutions for applications in lithography and microscopy. In this recently published work in Optics Letters, researchers have used a spatial light modulator with the genetic algorithm to focus light to a focal spot as small as 0.105λ/NA.
Complementary, serving as one of the most fundamental characteristics of quantum mechanics, has remained a long-standing subject of the continued investigations. Recently, it was shown that quantum entanglement is an indispensable part of the complementary behavior of the light. In this talk, I will consider this problem from the perspective of fiber bundles, providing new insight into the geometry of the complementary.
