Colloquium: Information For Speakers

Thank you for accepting our invitation to the TAMU Physics & Astronomy colloquium series. We are looking forward to your talk.

Travel and Accommodations

Shortly you should receive an email from our travel coordinator, Veronica Rodriguez. She will help with travel arrangements. It is preferable to book through her, and she usually can accommodate any reasonable wishes. The preferred option for air travel is flying into the College Station Easterwood Airport (CLL) but other options are available. Several local hotels have shuttles running to and from the airport. Ask Veronica Rodriguez or your host for details.

About Your Colloquium Talk

Please send a title and abstract to your host or the person inviting you latest two weeks before your talk. This will help us advertise your colloquium.

The colloquium will last one hour. A good rule of thumb is to plan a 50 minute lecture plus 5 – 10 minutes for questions. The audience includes students, researchers and faculty with diverse interests. To maximize usefulness for our students we ask colloquium speakers to introduce and motivate the topic clearly, with explanations about the general goals associated with the field of research. We recommend to spend the first 20 minutes on this task. Throughout the talk it is preferable to avoid or explicitly explain technical jargon and specialized notation.

When You Are Here

You will be assigned a host during your visit. Your host will take care of the scientific program for the day. Speakers please inform their host in advance if they wish to meet specific people or visit specific labs. We would appreciate if our guests could join for lunch and/or dinner. If you have any questions about your schedule please contact your host.

It is very important that you see Veronica Rodriguez to deal with paperwork.

If you are coming with your own vehicle, please ask Veronica Rodriguez or your host to arrange for access to the departmental parking spots (Lot 5, right next to the building). If not available, please park in the North Side Parking Garage which is located at the corner of University Drive and Ireland Street [Map of garage, visitor lots in blue]. Visitor parking is restricted to the 1st floor of the garage. You will need to go to the pay station to pay for your estimated time of use (please bring the receipt with you). The Mitchell Physics and Astronomy Building and the Mitchell Institute Building are located right next to the garage across Ireland Street.
