Biography

Dr. Sezgin's research interests include quantum gravity and supergravity, superstrings and theories of higher dimensional extended objects, with emphasis on supermembranes and infinite dimensional symmetries.Professor Sezgin received his bachelor's degree in 1975 from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, and his Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1980. In 1981, using a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Texas at Austin, he was a researcher at the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Santa Barbara. He also held postdoctoral and staff scientist positions at the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, until he joined the Texas A&M faculty in 1990. Dr. Sezgin has worked with Nobel laureate Abdus Salam on supergravity theories in diverse dimensions. In particular, he obtained the general couplings of extended supergravity in four dimensions, and a six-dimensional Maxwell-Einstein (sometimes referred to as Salam-Sezgin model) supergravity theory. Later, he co-discovered the 11-dimensional supermembrane theory, and discovered new space-time algebras related to the existence of super-extended objects.
