Biography
Dr. Verhoef studied Physics and Astronomy at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Experimental Physics from the Ludwig Maximilians Universität in Munich, in the group of Prof. Ferenc Krausz. His thesis research was on using the absolute phase of few-cycle and attosecond pulses to control the atomic-scale motion of electrons. As many attosecond physics experiments required the development of better laser sources, Dr. Verhoef is also an expert on ultrafast laser design. This expertise allowed Dr. Verhoef and colleagues to develop lasers that allowed breakthroughs in other disciplines, such as neuro-imaging and multiphoton imaging. Since joining TAMU in 2019, Dr. Verhoef combines advanced optical technologies with applications in biology and agriculture, using advanced ultrafast fiber lasers he helped develop in Vienna.
