Connecting to the DELL printers under Windows

Last modified: 14 Feb 2006

(1) To connect to these printers with a computer running MS Windows, use the "Add Printer Wizard"

(2) Choose the option that says Local printer attached to this computer - be sure to UNcheck the box for "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer".

(3) Choose the option that says Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP port from the drop down menu.

(4) You will need to type in the printer's name (see the table at the top of this page). Make up a name for the port (Just give it the same name as the printer).

You will then be asked for the network card type - the selection offerred by default should be "Generic". Click on "Next" (selecting the Generic type).

(5) After hitting the "Next" or "Ok" buttons, you will next be asked to install the printer software (ie. the correct driver). Click on the Have Disk button, then Browse... to the location you copied the driver to above (ie. "C:\Temp").

(6) Select the Dell PS (postscript) driver.

(7) Give the printer a name (eg. Singularity) and whether or not you want this printer to be the default printer.

You're done. Print a test page if you want.
