Backing up office and lab Mac OSX computers

The first step is to connect to the backup server. The easiest way to do this is from the Finder menu, click on Go and choose Connect to Server.

In the box, type in smb://userbackup.physics.tamu.edu/userid
(where userid is your userid, of course)

You will most likely be prompted for your Physics account userid & password.

If you connect successfully, you will see an icon for Userbackup on your desktop and in the file browser.

You may now use whatever backup program you have installed on your Mac. A good (and free for educational users) program is Synk, available at http://www.decimus.net/synk/
