Dr. Church's research interests include: atomic physics directed toward spectroscopy and collision processes involving low-energy, highly charged ions, multicharged ion collision interactions and precision laser spectroscopy of stored ions, charge transfer, orientations and alignment by collision, and synchrotron radiation research. After earning his B.A. degree at Dartmouth College and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Washington, Professor Church held several research positions in Europe and the U.S. He joined the Texas A&M faculty in 1975. He received a National Bureau of Standards Precision Measurement Grant and has been involved in collaborative research at Oak Ridge, Brookhaven, Argonne, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Presently he is collaborating at GSI, Darmstadt, GE, and Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
Research Topics: Spectroscopy and collisions of highly-charged ions
